For the rest of you out there who can't stand not knowing what cinematic gem this is, here is my best guess:

Hydra - original SyFy Movie

I forgot about those dummy books. They were pretty scary too! I guess old R.L. had more creepers than I gave him credit for.

Ah, R. L. Stein. I had the opposite problem, where EVERY book scared the ever-loving pants off of me. (I say every, I managed to realize the feedback loop I was in and stopped reading them altogether around the fifth one.) The one about garden gnomes was a stark memory (as was the horribly filmed but still terrifying movie), but the ones that never left my brain and probably gave me a phobia were the short series of books about that ventriloquist dummy. To this day, I can't even look at one without this feeling of utter dread and imminent death.

This is great! I was similarly sensitive, and, thanks to my parents, more or less unfamiliar with television more disturbing than "Wishbone" until the age of 10. I did, however, catch a glimpse once of something that my cousin was watching in which a woman got shot with a canon and had a hole through her chest. Really bad animation showed her insides poking out as she glanced down, realized that she wasn't going to make it, and collapsed.

Could not sleep after that one.

P.S. My kiddo was awake at 4 this morning because she was worried about kidnappers. Last night it was bears. The cycle continues.

Great analogies, Jesse. You're ready for the SAT.
I consider 16 the age of unaccountability. I liked some pretty weird things at 16. I even defended Richard Nixon until the bitter end.
